Green light for West Midlands freight interchange

The Government has given the planning green light for a major rail freight hub on land off the M6 in Staffordshire.

It is being developed by Four Ashes, a three-way partnership led by the specialist rail infrastructure business Kilbride Holdings, and backed by Grosvenor and the majority landowner, Piers Monckton.

The West Midlands Strategic Rail Freight Interchange will link to the motorway and the West Coast Mainline.

When built, it will provide up to 743,200 sq m of new rail-served and rail-linked warehousing allowing the region’s important logistics industry to grow.

Construction is expected to start in 2020/21 and currently expected to be phased over 15 years.

Works will include roads, bridges and drainage infrastructure, two phases of the rail freight terminal, individual buildings, extensive earthworks, landscaping and utilities works.
